Biography
Giovanna Alves dos Santos is a Master’s student in Opera (Vocal Performance) at the Stockholm University of the Arts. The young soprano is originally from Brazil and has lived in Norway since 2012. She previously completed her Bachelor’s degree in Classical Voice at the Conservatory of Music in Tromsø 2025. She has been awarded twice a grant from the Tom Wilhelmsen Foundation to develop in her field.
She combines her artistic work with a strong interest in creative leadership and project development at the age of 24. She served as project leader for the International Women’s Day Concert in Tromsø (2023), collaborating with fellow students to highlight female and minority composers, artists, writers, and performers. She has appeared as a soloist in Tromsø Cathedral (2021, 2022) and at Vinterfestuka Festival in Narvik (2023).
In August 2023, she co-produced and performed in Ouve o Silêncio – Listen to the Silence at Rødbanken Festhall together with Elias Eriksen, a concert dedicated to the music of Brazilian composer Claudio Santoro. Later that year, she appeared as soprano soloist in Annelies by James Whitbourn, conducted by Alejandro Pace in Tromsø Cathedral.
In 2024, she performs as soprano soloist in Förklädd Gud by Lars-Erik Larsson with the UiT Student Orchestra and Norges Arktiske Studentkor, and continues her collaboration with Elias Eriksen in a recital at Teiesalen in Tønsberg, featuring works by Claudio Santoro. During the Tromsø Opera Festival 2024, she served as understudy in Susannah by Carlisle Floyd and made her role debut in the title role due to illness, having also prepared the role of Mrs. Hayes during the production period.
